School Readiness
Ensuring your child has the confidence and social skills to do well in ‘Big School’

Lets get Big School ready
At The Green Elephant, we understand that school readiness is about more than academics—it’s about developing the whole child. Our holistic Transition to School program supports cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth in an integrated, interconnected way.
Through meaningful, play-based experiences, children explore foundational concepts in literacy and numeracy while learning how to solve problems, express themselves, and engage in respectful communication. We nurture independence and confidence by allowing children to make choices and contribute their ideas, while also promoting interdependence through collaboration and peer support.
We believe that children who feel secure, capable, and connected are better prepared for the next chapter. That’s why our approach goes beyond readiness—it’s about raising resilient, curious, and compassionate learners ready to thrive at Big School and beyond.
Social and Emotional Development
Through play-based learning and social interactions, your child builds confidence, resilience, and a sense of self. We help them to feel seen, and heard. We guide them in their first friendships and relationships, teaching them to navigate emotions.
Self-Regulation
Your child learns to recognise feelings and make their own choices. They learn to respect themselves and others. In everyday play, our educators model self-regulation and problem-solving.
Literacy
We explore literacy through so many means. Storytelling and songs, conversations, the printed word around us, and mark-making. We show how language helps us communicate and connect, for both fun and practical purposes.
Numeracy
Children investigate mathematical concepts as they play, build, and problem-solve. When they count, sort, measure and make patterns, we follow their lead. We connect numeracy to nature, sustainability, and daily life.
Physical Development
Our childcare centres are designed to promote movement, coordination, and strength. Your child plays outdoors in varied weather conditions. They practise climbing and balance work, and spend time in nature. We encourage them to take risks and challenge their bodies to develop their motor skills.
Partnerships with Feeder Schools
Your child should feel safe, prepared, and confident as they move on in their learning journey. We have built relationships with local schools, and invite teachers and principals to our centres. Connecting children and families to these educators in a familiar place eases the transition.
Foundations for Lifelong Learning

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.”

We’re not tied to one builder. Instead, we use our decades of experience to choose reliable, trustworthy builders and offer their packages to you. More builders means more choice for you.
There are so many play-based learning activities which develop imagination and self-expression. Exploring artistic activities like drawing, painting, music and make-believe, your child will develop their imagination, creativity and emotional expression. They’ll also enhance their cognition and problem-solving skills.
Language and communication skills are a must-have for self-expression, social connection, and improved cognition. We use storytelling, conversation, songs, and play to help your child expand their vocabulary, enhance their comprehension, express their thoughts and emotions more confidently.
Cognitive learning fosters problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking through exploration. It helps children understand concepts like cause and effect, memory, and reasoning. It strengthens brain connections, nurturing intellectual growth and a lifelong curiosity.
The Green Elephant movement program fosters motor skills, coordination, balance and strength. We encourage your child to explore and expand their physical capability, from their first roll to confident running.
