At The Green Elephant, we're proudly family-owned and guided by the value of "family." We create nurturing, home-like environments where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore.
Through play-based learning and strong partnerships with parents, we honour each child's uniqueness while supporting their growth, wellbeing, and confidence.
As parents of three young children ourselves, we know the importance of creating a space that feels safe, nurturing, and like a second home.
"Together with families, we build vibrant communities where children truly flourish. This is The Green Elephant way!"
Getting There
Getting to us from Marrickville
From the Marrickville Road shops it's about ten minutes by car to our front door on William Street, Beaconsfield. Head east along Marrickville Road, through Sydenham past the station, down the Princes Highway, then Campbell Road and Euston Road around Sydney Park, and Huntley Street brings you to Collins Street and William Street. If you're on the Sydenham side of Marrickville you're closer again, just under five kilometres, and you join the same route at Sydenham Road. From the shops it's 6.1 kilometres, so a bike ride is around 25 minutes.
Walking with a pram isn't realistic from Marrickville, around an hour and a quarter, so Marrickville families drive or ride. The train doesn't help either: Marrickville station is now on the M1 Metro, which runs through Sydenham to Central and the city rather than to Beaconsfield, and our nearest station is Green Square on the Airport line, so the rail option is a change at Central and then a walk of about a kilometre. If you ride, there's pram and bike parking inside our foyer. If you drive, we have dedicated spots in the garage for families, and there's street parking on William Street as well.

Serving Your Community
Why Marrickville families choose Beaconsfield
Families from across Marrickville choose The Green Elephant Beaconsfield for quality early learning and childcare. Whether you're near Marrickville Public School on Chalder Street, Enmore Park, or closer to Marrickville Metro on Smidmore Street, our centre is approximately ten minutes away by car, with a straightforward drive through Sydenham and down the Princes Highway, then around Sydney Park on Euston Road.
We understand that choosing childcare in Marrickville is one of the most important decisions you'll make as a parent. Our family-owned centre offers the warmth, quality, and community connection that Marrickville families deserve, with a team named a four-time City of Sydney Local Business Awards finalist, including the last three years running, dedicated to supporting your child's growth, development, and learning every single day.
Marrickville is the largest suburb in the Inner West Council area, about seven kilometres south-west of the city, with the Cooks River along its southern edge. The housing is a mix of Federation bungalows and older terraces, with units and townhouses built on former factory sites, and nearly half of all homes are flats or apartments. The two shopping strips are Marrickville Road, running west from Sydenham to the town hall with its cafes, grocers and clothing stores, and Illawarra Road, which runs south past the station, now a stop on the M1 Metro. The suburb has a strong Greek and Vietnamese heritage, a brewery scene in its light-industrial pockets and a walking path along the river. For the families who come to us it's a drive rather than a stroll: east through Sydenham and around Sydney Park, ten minutes or so when the roads are clear.
What a day looks like
Play-based learning from nursery to preschool, with meals included
Every day is built around play: gardening, cooking, music and movement, language, and excursions into the neighbourhood, with a chef-cooked lunch and morning and afternoon tea included. Our nursery, toddler and preschool rooms each run their own rhythm, and our school readiness programme takes the preschoolers through their last year with us.

Your Questions
Questions from Marrickville families
How far is The Green Elephant from Marrickville?
About 6.1 kilometres from the Marrickville Road shops to our door on William Street, Beaconsfield, so it's a drive rather than a walk. That's about ten minutes by car when the roads are clear, via Sydenham, the Princes Highway and Euston Road around Sydney Park, or around 25 minutes by bike. From the Sydenham side of Marrickville it's just under five kilometres.
Can I walk or catch the train from Marrickville?
Walking is around an hour and a quarter, so Marrickville families tend to drive or ride. Marrickville station is on the M1 Metro, which runs through Sydenham to Central and the city rather than to Beaconsfield. Our nearest station is Green Square on the Airport line, about fifteen minutes on foot from the centre, and getting there from Marrickville means changing at Central, so the car or the bike is quicker. There's pram and bike parking inside our foyer when you arrive.
What ages do you take at the Beaconsfield centre?
Three rooms by age: nursery for 0 to 2 years, toddlers for 2 to 3, and preschool for 3 to 5. Nursery places are the ones that fill first, so if you have a baby on the way or under one, contact us early and we'll let you know where the nursery waitlist sits.
What are your opening hours?
We're open 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, all year round. The only days we close are public holidays. There's no Christmas shutdown.
How much does childcare cost for Marrickville families?
It depends on your family's Child Care Subsidy, which is why we don't publish a single figure. Our Enrolments Hub will work out your actual out-of-pocket cost in a few minutes on 1300 353 742, and the 3-Day Guarantee means many families are eligible for three subsidised days a week.
Can we visit before enrolling?
Please do. Book a daytime tour any weekday, or book a Twilight Tour and see the centre in a relaxed evening setting after work. Call 1300 353 742 or use the Book a Tour button.
